Hmmm... is that a fact? \:D/
From a Penang perspective or that depends which part of Johore one's in??? :-$

From our perspective thats still in force as recognized almost the world over, one can drive, albeit a Rental or private vehicle in another country (again under the Laws governing this common agreement which is stipulated under all associated AA's) one first needs to travel with an additional International Driving Licence which bears a current PP size photo and it is valid for 12 months only. A fee is accompanied as well.

Regarding insurance and authorisation by private owner to allow someone to steer , that is a personal arrangement whereby the Insured party is prepared to support the use of his/her car esp. when the authorized would-be driver is not a domicile resident of the host country.

Bro cruiser,

According to AAM there is a special arrangement/agreement within the Commonwealth Countries concerning driving licenses. There is no need for an International Driving License if you intent to driving less than 3 months upon entry. Like you mention, there are agreement/rules between countries that can affect this ruling. Nonetheless, I have specifically asked about a Singaporean driving a Malaysian car (rental or private) and the answer is still the same. I always have my International Driving License when I intent to drive overseas. They are easy to apply and no test needed.

This Ruling applies to all parts of Malaysia... we are not as bad as some thought we are... but...

At one time many moon and mountains away  , I did enjoy this other Commonwealth privilege but now being in the EU and the UK for its part, being the only Commonwealth country with the EU, we have a more extensive accessibility but all in all... Almost sama2 juga lah. :gg:

Our driving licence gets renewed every 10 years and the Int'l DL is yearly and as of recently, the fee was increased but epyleptic cases are constraint to medical tests although with the high risk :axe: amok it isnt.

I ve been driving in England and Japan before. From what i ve known, there are no such what so calls an "international driving licence". (UNLESS WE ARE DRIVING AN UN TANK) Just an "international driving permit" must be couple with our own valid driving licence. The permit do state a list of countrys which may allow us to drive. Thou it was valid for a year but we can drive for only 90days. More than that, we wil need to apply/test for the country licence. I was at town right now. Later tonight, i wil attach a copy of IDP :nehneh:

International Driving Permit is essentially a multiple language translation of one's own existing driver's license, complete with photograph and vital statistics. It is not a license to operate a motor vehicle on its own.

For Malaysia driving licence holder, it's almost a need to carry the International Driving Permit since the driving licence is written in Malay, I think. :-k

For Singapore driving licence holder, it's like a bit extra. Unless you are going to some ulu place which does not recognize English.
